NANA WHITE PEPPER @ JACARANDA

It’s fair to say that Nana White Pepper are one of the most exciting new bands around at the minute. Hailing from Blackpool, the four-piece are on their first headline tour, and have sold out every date they’ve played so far.

This was my first venture to Jacaranda, and my first venture to Liverpool for a gig, and with the reputation that it has as a music city, i was excited to hear what the supports had to offer.

The first support band, Lateral Inflections, an American-Scouse four piece who, despite a small turnout, interacted well with the crowd and played a good set.

Next was Nine Foot Brian, who definitely wouldn’t have fit into the basement at Jacaranda were he a real person. Their hard hitting lyrics and riffs that wouldn’t be out of place on Stadium Arcadium made them very easy to listen to and as the venue had filled up a bit more, it gave them more of a chance to banter with the crowd, which the lead singer did very well, and had the room laughing as well as nodding along. Definitely a band i would recommendseeing if you’re out and about in Liverpool.

The final support band was Valent, another Scouse Four Piece who were playing on the day of the release of their first song on Spotify, ‘The Game’. The band, markedly younger than the previous supports, looked right at home on the stage and had the crowd engaged from start to finish. They’re a band definitely on the rise and if their set last night was anything to go by, I’ll definitely be going to see them again.

Now, Nana White Pepper. This was my third time seeing them, and they’ve gotten better each time i’ve seen them, tonight was no exception. Opening with ‘Simmer Down’, lead singer Patrick had the crowd involved from the start by directing “He goes out every night” to various people in the crowd. Next was ‘Enemy’ which is as of yet unreleased, but despite not knowing many of the songs, the crowd still got involved and sang back to Patrick when he prompted them. Next ‘Come Alive’ and ‘Untouchable’ two of my favourite songs by the band, both of which went down well, then the slightly slower ‘Dark Room’ which i would honestly say is their best live song, the lyrics are fantastic and the riffs are incredible. The band’s newest single ‘Live Or Die’ once again got the crowd involved by the band encouraging them to clap along and sing the chorus back, which they did in full voice, as well as Mully offering his mic to various members of the crowd to sing back to Patrick. The last 2 songs ‘Tear The World Apart’ and ‘Fly’ were an energetic way to close the set, keeping the crowd on their toes right until the very last second.

If you haven’t seen NWP live yet, i highly recommend you do.
